We in India have a fruit called 'Amla'. This is known to be the richest source of vitamin C! It is pretty sour. But what you have revealed about peppers is very interesting. Love peppers, raw or cooked.

Seems you learn something new each time you come to this site. Who knew C didn't like water or heat....go for the fruit and veggies raw.

The best way to fight a cold is to prevent a cold. Or, simply hygiene health. Especially paying attention to what you touch or handle in public. Protect yourself from others who don't use preventions and don't touch door handles, or any entrances that you push to open, use your arm or sleeve when touching these surfaces. Always wipe down anything you use to pick up and shop with, carts, baskets, any carriers. Those are the places you pick up germs. I haven't had more than a half a dozen colds in my life. I'm in my 70's. The last cold I've had was 8 years ago, because, I use these techniques persistently.

Rigel Lyle Constantino, The guava fruit is a lot richer in Vitamin C compared to oranges. It's best for smokers specially to prevent damage to lungs, This is my experience.

I am a "kiwi" a New Zealander. When I was a child in the 50's and 60's kiwifruit grew wild over fences and hedges. But it was a small, hard and quite tart fruit none of us were interested in except for jams etc. We called it a chinese gooseberry. Funny how food has evolved.

What about Amla or gooseberry? I think it is the richest source of vitamin C in any form, cooked or raw. And guava?

One Acerola cherry has 80 mgs of vitamin c. A cup full would have over 800 mgs!

Vitamin C is very delicate, cooking destroys it and water is bad for it too.

I eat the white pith of the orange because I think it contains vitamins. I eat at least two a day in the winter and I eat lots of fruit and raw vegetables in the summer. I once went 14 years without catching a cold and I have not had one for at least five years. Sprouts are good stir fried so that they do not get overcooked, I love them.
